Ittar, also known as attar, is an essential oil extracted and distilled from botanical or other natural sources. 

Their refreshing natural fragrances may be used in pujas and are applied to deities as an auspicious practice. Ancient texts describe how fragrances appease the deities, the iterates which come in a variety of options such as rose, musk, jasmine and sadabhar may be applied alternatively.  

They may also be used by devotees as a natural alternative to chemical deodorants and anti-perspirants.
